Annual dinner

The Connecticut SPJ annual Excellence in Journalism Awards Dinner will be held at Fantasia in North Haven on Thursday, May 24, 2012.

The dinner highlights the best of journalism in Connecticut during 2011. It is also the time when CTSPJ inducts new members into the Hall of Fame, presents scholarships to deserving journalism students and honors supporters of Freedom of Information.

There will also be a special guest speaker this year. Edgar-winning author Leonard Levitt will talk about the art of hard-core investigative journalism in this era when traditional newsrooms are brutally understaffed and digital start-ups are struggling to build their identity. Levitt writes the “NYPD Confidential” blog that regularly breaks national news about the hidden workings of the country’s biggest police force. He wrote the “One Police Plaza” column for 10 years at Newsday, and has reported for the Associated Press, the Detroit News and others. He is the author of six books, including Conviction: Solving the Moxley Murder.
