Data Journalism Workshop

Starts: May 27, 2015 at 1:00 pm
Ends: May 27, 2015 at 3:00 pm

Join Andrew Tran, a data journalist at the CT Mirror, for a two-hour workshop on using data in your reporting.

Tran is a data editor for TrendCT.org at The Connecticut Mirror. Previously, he was a data producer for The Boston Globe Data Desk and contributed to the paper’s Pulitzer Prize award-winning coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings and aftermath. Prior to joining the Globe in 2011, he was an online producer at The Virginian-Pilot and a staff writer at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He’s a Metpro Fellow, a Chips Quinn Scholar, and a graduate of the University of Texas.

The workshop will be hosted at Southern Connecticut State University from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday May 27. The event will be in Morrill 205. (That’s building 8 on the campus map, found here. Free parking is available in the Fitch Street Garage – building 4 on the campus map.)

Computers will be provided, but it’s recommended you bring your own laptop with Microsoft Excel and Google Refine installed. Come prepared with a dataset from your beat to work on during the workshop.

Attendance is free, but registration is required. To register, fill out the form below, or visit our EventBrite page.

Program hosted by the SCSU Journalism Department and CTSPJ.
